How double discounts work

Two discounts apply one after another, not added together. A 20% + 10% discount is not 30% off — it is 20% off, then 10% off the reduced price, i.e. 28% effective. This calculator handles that correctly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the original price from a sale price? Original = Sale price ÷ (1 − discount%).
Is “70% + extra 10%” really 80% off? No — it is 73% off effective. Retailers count on shoppers adding them up.
Does it include tax? No — discounts apply on the pre-tax price; taxes are added after.
