PDF Page Numbers

Add page numbers to every page of a PDF in your browser – “Page 1”, “Page 2”, and so on, placed exactly where you want them. Ideal for reports, contracts, and ebooks. Everything is processed locally; nothing is uploaded to Utilzivo.

How to Use the Page Number Tool

  1. Choose the PDF file you want to number.
  2. Pick where the numbers appear: bottom center (the classic choice), bottom right, or top center.
  3. Choose a number style – “Page 1”, plain “1”, or “- 1 -“.
  4. Set the starting number. Use 1 for a fresh document, or a higher number if this PDF continues another file (for example, start at 21 for an appendix).
  5. Press Add Page Numbers and download the numbered PDF.

Practical example

You merged three chapters into one PDF and the page numbers are now wrong. Choose the merged file, keep bottom-center position and the “Page N” style, set the start to 1, and press Add Page Numbers. Every page gets a neat, consistent footer number in seconds – no need to rebuild the document in a word processor.

Key features and benefits

  • Three positions: bottom center, bottom right, or top center to match your layout.
  • Three number styles: formal “Page 1”, minimal “1”, or decorative “- 1 -“.
  • Custom start number: continue numbering across split documents.
  • Local processing: your PDF never leaves your device.
  • Clean typography: numbers are drawn in a neutral gray Helvetica that suits any document.

Limitations

Numbers are added as new text on each page; the tool cannot detect or replace page numbers that are already part of the document. Very full pages may have little margin space – bottom-center placement needs about 40 points of footer room. The font and size are fixed for consistency. Password-protected PDFs cannot be processed.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can I use Roman numerals like i, ii, iii? Not currently – the tool numbers with standard digits. For Roman numerals, number the PDF first and treat this as a follow-up step in a future update.
  • What if my document already has page numbers? The tool adds new numbers; it cannot detect or remove existing ones. For a clean result, start from a version without printed numbers.
  • Why start from a number other than 1? When a document is split across files – for example chapters or appendices – continuing the numbering keeps the whole set consistent.
