Unit Converter
Convert common length, weight, area and volume units instantly in your browser.
Convert a measurement
- Choose Length, Weight, Area or Volume.
- Enter the numeric value and select the source unit in From.
- Select the destination unit in To, then choose Convert.
When you change category, the unit lists reset. Check both units before the next conversion. “Weight” here converts common mass units; it does not calculate force or account for local gravity.
Useful conversion checks
- Length: 2.5 kilometres = 2,500 metres.
- Weight: 1 pound = 0.45359237 kilograms.
- Area: 1 hectare = 10,000 square metres.
- Volume: 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 litres.
The method is value × source-unit factor ÷ destination-unit factor. Each category uses one base unit: metre, kilogram, square metre or litre. The result is displayed with up to 12 significant digits.
Choose the correct type of unit
Length and area conversions use different factors. Because one foot is 0.3048 metres, one square foot is 0.3048 × 0.3048 = 0.09290304 square metres. Converting the number of feet and reusing that result as square feet would be wrong.
The volume list uses a US gallon and US customary cup. These differ from an imperial gallon and a 250 mL metric cup. Check the source of a recipe or measurement before selecting a unit.
Unit conversion questions
Can I convert litres to kilograms?
Not with a fixed factor. That conversion needs the substance’s density. This form converts units within one category.
Can I enter feet and inches together?
Enter one numeric quantity in one unit. For 5 feet 6 inches, use 5.5 Foot or 66 Inch; do not enter 5.6 feet.
Does this convert currencies or temperatures?
No. It has no exchange-rate feed. For Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin, use the separate Temperature Converter.
How accurate is the displayed result?
The tool applies its stored conversion factors and rounds the display. Extra digits do not make an imprecise original measurement more accurate.
