Format or minify JSON

  1. Paste JSON into the input box.
  2. Select Format JSON for two-space indentation or Minify JSON for compact output.
  3. Read the validation message. If the input is valid, use Copy Result to copy the output.

The input stays in place, and the output appears in a separate read-only box. Invalid input clears the previous output so an older result is not mistaken for a corrected one.

Try a product-data example

Paste {"product":"Notebook","price":35,"inStock":true,"tags":["office","paper"]}. Formatting places the properties and array items on separate indented lines; minifying produces compact JSON again. Neither mode checks whether the product price or stock status is correct.

Fix common syntax errors

  • Use double quotes around property names and text values: {"name":"Utilzivo"}.
  • Remove trailing commas, such as the comma in {"count":2,}.
  • Remove JavaScript comments; standard JSON does not allow them.
  • Use lowercase true, false and null. Values such as undefined and NaN are not JSON values.

A browser error can point near a problem without identifying the exact fix. Check the preceding quote, bracket or comma as well as the reported position.

What parsing can change

The tool parses JSON and serializes the result again. Duplicate object keys can be lost, numeric formatting or key order may change, and large integers beyond JavaScript’s safe range can lose precision. For identifiers such as a long order number, use a quoted string when the receiving system permits it. Keep the original if exact bytes matter for a signature or comparison.

JSON questions

Does “Valid JSON” mean my API request is correct?

No. It checks JSON syntax, not required fields, a JSON Schema, permissions or the receiving API’s rules.

Can it repair broken JSON automatically?

No. Correct the input using the error message and try again.

Can it format JSON Lines or JSON5?

Not as those formats. The input must be a single standard JSON value. Multiple separate records need a valid enclosing array if that fits your task.

Is it safe to paste API secrets?

The formatter works locally, but avoid pasting live tokens or private payloads into browser tools. Use anonymised test data when debugging.
